SHOCHU This three-story wooden inn is located on the banks of the Kuma River, one of the rapids, and is currently under application as a national cultural property.It is a collaboration with Kumagawa Onsen Tsurunoyu Ryokan, where you can feel the flow of time and daily life in Sakamoto-cho, Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture. We would like to inform you that we are rolling out the plan. Reservations are now available on the Kumagawa Onsen Tsurunoyuryokan official website ( https://www.tsurunoyuryokan.com/ ).

Kumagawa Onsen Tsurunoyu Ryokan is a three-story inn built entirely of wood, with three floors above ground and one floor underground, founded in 1950. We are currently preparing to register it as a national tangible cultural property. Although it was damaged by the Kumamoto heavy rain disaster in 2020, it was partially reopened in November 2021 with the cooperation of supporters across the country. In order to make use of the lessons learned from the disaster, the hotel is reborn as a disaster-resistant regional hub by incorporating solar power generation, electric vehicles, etc., with the concept of ``a new wooden inn equipped with electricity.''

The building is entirely made of glass with a panoramic view of the Kuma River. Everything on the first floor except for the pillars was washed away in a heavy rain disaster, so we are renovating it using fittings and wood inherited from about 60 houses in the village. The interior of the building is lined with inherited furniture (older ones from the Tenpo era), and some from the Meiji and Taisho eras are used on a daily basis.

There is evidence that there was a hot spring in the area where the current inn is located during the Tenpo period. You can enjoy the smooth hot springs, which were affectionately known as Kusayu and Tsujiyu, in a private large communal bath overlooking the Kuma River, with simple hot springs flowing directly from the source.

We welcome you with country cuisine made from pesticide-free vegetables, rice, wild vegetables, and river fish grown in the village. In the spring, we offer wild vegetables such as cod sprouts, kosiabura, bracken, and zenmai; in the summer, we have eel; in the fall, we have wild sweetfish from the Kuma River and mitten crab; and in the winter, we have wild game. You can enjoy country cuisine without using chemical seasonings.

While enjoying the Kuma shochu "Washuka" at the nostalgic, traditional inn "Kumagawa Onsen Tsurunoyu Ryokan" on the banks of the Kuma River, we want you to experience the warmth and original scenery of Japan as if you were returning home. With this in mind, we will be developing a collaborative accommodation plan.

Nagomi

Concept: Just like butter or caramel
Characteristics: After atmospheric distillation, the rice is aged for 14 years in tanks to bring out the characteristics of rice. It expresses the rich, deep, and sweet flavor unique to rice shochu.
Aroma/Taste: When placed in a glass, the sweet aroma develops over time.

When you put it in your mouth, the sweetness and richness gradually spreads, with hints of butter, caramel, milk candy, and freshly cooked rice. The aftertaste lingers comfortably.
